Flowerpod _ Body Talk _ Eczema

I have been suffering from Enzema since young.

However, any podders having the same problem as me? Any ways to stop the itch and which doctors do u visit???

I just wanna shake this skin problem as soon as possible......

Posted by: wint3rz May 23 2005, 09:38 PM

if u had it since young, best to go see the docs at National Skin Centre.

but it could be pricey, so get a reference from the polyclinics to get an appointment with the NSC.

Posted by: daphne May 23 2005, 09:42 PM

ERm.. correct spelling is Eczema.

Anyway, I hv slight eczema, asked my GP before. He said it's not curable.. we can only hv it under control, but it might come back anytime (wrong skincare products, dirt, weather etc)

Posted by: strawberrygal May 23 2005, 09:46 PM

I have ever tried the national skin centre b4 but not much use for me thou.

Daphne: yup, u are rite! thats the correct spelling for Eczema! hee redface.gif but how do ya control it?

Posted by: pinggyy May 23 2005, 11:40 PM

i just suffer recently. haiz so upset with it. i dunno what to do. went to GP and prescribe me with medicine and cream. aft takin the medicine my menses delayed. sigh. but the cream really stopped the itch.

Posted by: belladona May 24 2005, 01:40 AM

Perhaps EPO may assist in alleviating the problem?
Otherwise, got to use mild cleanser e.g. QV, Cetaphil etc.. after bathing, don't rub..just pat dry..

apply moisturiser...and steriod creams

Posted by: stickytape May 24 2005, 10:10 AM

i also suffer from eczema.... wah it's really very torturous when it gets bad.....

for about half a year i had it on my eyelid.... then i went to school everyday with swollen eyelids... sometimes i think i really look like a monster............. and i feel so sad cry_smile.gif

now better le... with medication and some cream... took a long time to heal though... i normally just go to polyclinics or the doctor at NUS YIH.... now my ezcema is on my inner elbows, flames up when i perspire or when it gets irritated by dust or whatever, then i'll just apply the dermasone cream provided by the doctors. think it's available in the pharmacys too.

when my eyelid eczema was very bad my friend recommended me this doctor in Pearl Centre he said was very effective for his eczema. His was quite a jialat condition i dink was all ovr his body. But now he said it's under control le, just go for visits twice a year or something. I don't have the address but i may get it from him nxt time. he went to the National Skin Centre during his army days and said that it didn't work for him! maybe bcos he went under the subsidised scheme and the medicine they provide was the cheaper kind...

sigh.. eczema... i really hate it... not only it cannot be cured, it is hereditary... last time my BF said that if one of the parents has eczema, there would be 40% chance that the children would have it too!! i really don't want to give it to my children!!!! hammer.gif

Posted by: pinggyy May 24 2005, 01:52 PM

sigh. ialso don't want my child to have headache like me because of this. mine is sudden one. my sis dun haf. only me. my parents dun haf too. mine is under control and i guess dun stress up and be extra disclipined and not to scratch it.

Posted by: polaris May 24 2005, 02:50 PM

i haf eczema too, at the back of my knees n it got quite bad till i didnt wear a skirt out for 2 years.

anyway, i didnt go see any doctors for it, n somehow i managed to "cure" it myself. basically, wat i did was i kept massaging the itchy areas when it felt itchy, then i put on body cream, so tat the skin would be more hydrated. then slowly, it started to get better.

n i think mood is impt too, cos i realise tat when i start feeling happier n not so stress, the eczema also started to subside.

now, my eczema is "cured", but there are still times when i can feel the itch n like its gonna flare up, then i will control myself n not scratch it. cos once u start scratching, the whole thing will flare up again.

kicking.gif

Posted by: strawberrygal May 25 2005, 08:42 AM

I fully agreed that mood is important! When i am really stressed up, everybody noes that i am really in a stress up mode... Lotsa lotsa red red patches.. imagine u are stressed enuff, yet those rashes are giving ya a big damn hell time cos it s painful ... and not forgetting those strangers' stares... i just hate those times...... wallbash.gif

But have any one tried those blood tests b4? The test is able to determine what sorta of food/matierals that u are allergic to it. But i am not sure about the procedure and where to do it...

Besides, what brand/type of steriod creams are u guys applying? I am applying Elomet Cream but it seems to be a white elephant to me already. Probably got immune to it .... Thinking for a switch but i am using QV moisturizer cream..I have 2 big thumbs for this cream.. It is superb superb moisturizing..For those of you who are preparing to go to winter countries, u may consider using this! It is a good "skin supplement" to bring along....

As for my case, my parents and siblings doesnt have this kind of diseases as well... only me and i really dun wish to pass it to my future kids too... sigh...

Posted by: cutina May 25 2005, 11:27 PM

Yes mood very impt.. when I get irritated my eczema gets worse... I went to many famous doctors.. but all said this cannot be cure can only control.. apparently, the last doc I went to.. said cos we r born wif dry skin and thus have eczema and she gave me some funny advice and it works... She says.. when I itch, apply moisturiser.. when I want to scratch I apply them instead, free also apply moisturiser basically is apply whenever I can. It works for me a little. bos mine is serious case.. all over my body... And I bath in the shower oil she gave me... its feel yucky at 1st... but then after a few shower it feels as if no more oil liao..and I use my Clarin's oil to let my skin be more oily...

Posted by: daphne May 25 2005, 11:34 PM

Yah, i use doc's cream to control the itch.. apply as long as i rmb.. it's a steroid cream i think.

i rmb, in the old forum, someone mentioned that asthmatics are prone to eczema. don't know if i rmbed correctly or not. i'm asthmatic and got sinus problem.

I also have eczema. started when i was in sec sch. can flare up at my eyelids, nose and the area ard my nose and lips. quite bad. i went to normal GP and he gave steroid cream which work initialli but i got immuned to it after using for a few yrs. After tat i was on my own for a while. Quite bad till i attended this groomin class and the lady told me tat i should go some specialist to get those none steroid cream. This kind of cream is new. Steroid can thin your skin, making it more easili irritable. she said she has been using the none steroid cream ever since they started selling. So i went NSC to see doc and got one. Steroid cream is cheaper than the none steroid ones. Work ok for me. Been using for a few mths. But can't say for sure that it will stay with me for live.

Posted by: Victoria May 26 2005, 12:53 AM

I get mild eczema around my fingers, especially if I do housework like washing dishes without gloves.. I used to apply steroid creams, now I've switched to a non-steroidal one.. It's A LOT more expensive.. I used to get a 15g tube of steroid cream (betamethaxone) for $5, now I'm using a new generation non-steroidal cream (Protopic) that cost $50+ for 10g! See the huge difference? Good thing I only use a wee bit between my fingers every now and then..

The cream is also good for treating nickel allergy that I get from wearing non-precious metal earrings..

i've recently been diagnosed with eczema around my legs.. the itch is very irritating but i think its quite mild. also, one thing ive learnt, if i dont scratch i wont get any scars.

and i did alot of reading up on eczema, its actually caused by skin drying so now, i use body lotion everyday and night all over. to control the itch, the doctor prescribed me with some dermasone cream but i've squeezed out every last bit so i use tiger balm to help bring down the itch. it works, and doesnt irritate the skin=) anyway, dermasone is steroid-based and can cause thinning of the skin (will make veins appear more visible and skin to bruise easily).

the other day, went to the pharmacy and saw alot of anti-inflammation creams. wonder if its any good.. i want to try one soon.

girls, any reviews on this? pharmacy-based anti-inflammation creams?

izzit anybody will be diagnosed with enzema out of sudden?

Posted by: daphne Jun 1 2005, 04:40 PM

bubbleluv: yes... i got sunburnt after a tanning session.. and i got a itch on my chest area which didn't go away for 1 mth.. so i consulted my GP, and he said I got eczema.. since then.. even my arms and face also got... it's like 'mo ming qi miao'!!

Posted by: stickytape Jun 1 2005, 05:38 PM

my doctor told me it was a "gift from my parents".

*wah lao, i rather not have it manz.*

i think it's most probably hereditary, the thing is in ur genes. just waiting for the spark to flare up only....

eczema is only controllable but not curable. if the rash subsides do put moisturizer often to keep it away!

Posted by: snow_white Jun 2 2005, 03:40 AM

i got eczema few years back out of the blue..last year i thought it was gone..but who knows, it came back last year sad.gif they began on my butts tongue.gif

Nothing use to work for me when i had eczema but after my doctor prescribe this lotion by the brand DesOwen it helped relieve my eczema very effectively. Once i see it popping up on my arms n legs i will apply and it will go away in like a few hours. i think it is desonide lotion or something like that and is available at guardian's pharmacy but must get prescription from doc's first.

Posted by: wakaka Jun 8 2005, 12:23 PM

how abt the colour? mine now is dark dark rough rough. anyway to smooth it?

Posted by: waybeyond Jun 8 2005, 07:34 PM

hey hey my mummy just bought me oilatum cream for dry irritating skin a few weeks back and its a god-sent! =)

used to have all these inflammations around my legs that itches like mad and ive been very dependant on steroid creams BUT its got alot of side effects and all so when my mum brought back this cream, i slathered a very generous amount around my legs whenever i feel an itch and the rashes will go by a few hours, or at most a day. and after that i stop using the cream and go back to my normal moisturiser. its really that effective. maybe u girls can go try?

my mum got it at mustapha centre for $6+. i saw it guardian pharmacy but i didn't check out the price. should be ard the same i think. its Oilatum Cream. =)

HTHs.

me eczema sufferer also!

EPO does nt work for me at all.... And cream actually makes the skin in that area very thin and prone to breaking when u apply it long term so not too good...

rose hip oil works for me... though it might not reduce the itch once it occurs, but it does help to heal faster and i continue applying it as a form of prevention of the reccurence of the eczema.. I'm also eating Burdock Root from Nature's Farm, my parents forced me to eat it cos they say it would help to cleanse the blood..

Hi

I am new to this site. Anyway, i came across this thread, and thought of sharing with you my experience with eczema.

Usually people with eczema are also prone to sinus (frequent runny/blocked nose) and asthma and sensitive eyes. It's a over-sensitive immune condition known as "atopic". Basically there is no cure for it right now, and nobody knows why it only happens to some people and not others. The only way to combat it is to reduce/prevent its occurrence with the right medicine/products.

I had ezcema when i was a child and it subsided when i got into my teens. Recently, it flared up again all of a sudden. I went to visit this doctor (a dermatologist cum GP) at Tampines (whom i have also seen for my previous acne problems) and her body wash and moisturer has worked very well for me. My rashes have subsided within 2-3 weeks and i no longer get this dry and itchy feeling all over my body. Basically the right type of body wash and daily moisturing is important for folks with ezcema.

For those interested, you can check out the clinic:
Maple Clinic
Blk 825 Tampines St 81 #01-64
S520825
Tel: 67839038 (call and ask for Dr Ong's schedule as there are 2 doctors there and only Dr Ong is trained in dermatology)

For those with sinus, you can check with your GP on this nasal spray (Esonide). I have been using it for some time, and i am now less prone to blocked/running nose. It contains a very low dosage of the medication so you wouldnt feel drowsy after taking it.

Hope this helps smile.gif

having a bad case of eczema on my left foot and inner right thigh now. flares up whenever i'm stressed. but it hasn't been getting better since my exams last may sad.gif

i used to control it by applyin lots of moisturiser.. but doesn't seem to work now cry_smile.gif

Posted by: sugahplume Jun 29 2005, 11:18 PM

me too! grin tongue.gif

used to have terrible rashes that extended all around the back of my elbows and knees, and neck(where sweat collects), er and after that on my calves too sad.gif was so horrible and red and itchy til i couldn't stand it and went to see the doctor (maple clinic). now i completely don't use soap unless no choice, and use this bathing oil thing with natural oils that's very moisturising coz it replaces your body oil, and i use a very strong moisturiser, and when things get out of hand i use this anti-itch cream or this pill which stops the itch too. now my skin is quite nice, looks pretty normal. smile.gif but costs quite a bit of money to maintain it la... but no choice... rather than itching and scratching and looking(and feeling) horrible right?

minh try QV cream? normal moisturisers are usually not strong enough... and try not to let sweat collect there. if it gets really bad, see a dermatologist!

woah.. nearly missed this thread... i'm suffering from ezcema as well.. mine is a pretty bad case where my hands and legs are all scarred by it.. now trying to lighten the spots.. but usually, i would not bathe with hot water as it spurs the skin to itch.. also if there are hardened skin, it will also itch for no apparent reason... best thing is to try to not sweat so much.. if u do, then remember to wipe it dry and wash it with water to cool the skin if u dun have your cream with you... been seeing this doc from chinatown about it and the effects are relatively good.. and it is not expensive... HI all,

I would like to share how i control my eczema. I had it really really bad last time, like there'll be bleeding and lots of pus and skin was all cracked up and painful.
Ao anyway its so much better now, although still itches sometimes and small patches come up.

Here's my care program:
1) dont bathe with very hot water, just slightly warm, use cetaphil soap for body
2)MUST apply moisturizer within 20mins after bath, i use QV cream works very well. If very bad, apply steroid/protopic cream before the moisturizer to rash area only.
3) do not use products containing AHA/BHA if the eczema's on the face
4)try to wear breathable clothes, like cotton
5)Supplements: I take evening primrose oil, vitamin E and vitamin C daily, but not at max dosage.
6)FACE: No foaming cleansers, causes dryness and irritation. Tired many brands and so far La Roche Posay toleriane cleansing fluid works best for me. Then after cleaning i rinse with cold water adn apply toleriane moistuizing cream.

Lastly, I see Dr Phay at SPecialist SKin clinic when it flares up.... very good doctor.

HOpe this helps you gals out there who are suffering... tongue.gif

i use moisturizer from a brand named "Vaseline"

works ok, although it itches real bad..

it has smothen the skin thou the scars can be seen..

even so, such moisturizers pampers ur skin too much that when u touch the skin, it triggers the itch.. hammer.gif

If you have eczema, you can't shave your legs right? Otherwise will cause it to flare up?

My friend has such a situation. Moreover, her leg hair is really thick - look like guy's. ph34r.gif She went for laser treatment to get rid of the leg hair. Seems much better down and her eczema looks like its calmed down. I suppose the leg hair traps a bit of dirt that irritates the skin too?

Oopsie, i missed this thread too...

anyone has it on the face? do you all still makeup? sweatingbullets.gif

i have it on my cheeks , after applying Elomet (steroid cream), it cleared in 3-4 days..

Last week for nothg a patch of eczema rash appear under my eye bag!!! whole eye swollen like tat.. so irritating. I applied a very small amount of Rose Hip Oil on it for few days it slowly disappear...
the thg boutt is rose hip oil is, it works for eczema that are mild , those very serious one it dun really heal completely.
I used shower oil to bath to prevent my skin fr further dryness, then I used rose hip oil on the affected areas. it help fades off some of my small scare very fast. I use tonnes of moisturiser on it too.
Yesterday i went to plants&Planet(did i get the name rite?) at Centerpoint. They selliing a blend for eczema. cost $13.50 for 20ml. Im trying that out now, cos the lady told me rosehip oil actualy not for eczema but for fading of scars.. so now i use that blend for my eczema, rose hip for the scars left behind when the eczema heals, and shower oil for my shower.
On top of that, I take pine bark extract (terribly ex... cost $180 per 180 pills), but it seems b no reaction. its a kind of anti-oxidant. and then also taking this "perko tea" available in some watsons' store. its a very pungent tea tat is gassy, containing stuff like papaya leaves, black rice etc... i tink that helps me a little but I get a bit of outbreak aft drinking that which the pharmist say its normal cos it suppose to purge all the toxin out before healing.
im really staking all that I have to find a cure on eczema cos i have it all overmy body, arms and legs.. even neck.
so far the rose oil helps me a little thou the lady say it more for fading scar.
at least it cure my arm part. now my arm not so ugly.
I hope what I trying out works. Anything new I will post here...
hope u girls get well soon...

Don't put m/u if you have eczema on the face! Always keep the face clean! Moisturisers or creams prescribed by your doctor are okay.

I also have eczema (seborrheic dermatitis) around my eye brows and corner of my nose. The only moisturizer that really helping my eczema is Triceram (www.triceram.com). By the way, I am not working for this company. I just want to inform other people regarding this moisturizer ,because for eczema sufferer like me, it's very difficult to find a suitable moisturizer.

Even a moisturizer from my doctor which is very mild, burnt my skin when my eczema is flaring up. Triceram actually calms the skin. The texture is a bit thick and difficult to apply, but it is not oily. I usually bought it from the US website because they don't sell it in Singapore.

When my eczema is very bad, Protopic is still my first choice, but I try not to use Protopic often because the long term side effect still han't been studied. That's why I try to use Triceram when my eczema is not too bad.

For eczema sufferer who wants to use BHA for mild exfoliation, you can try Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion. It's very gentle.

Clinique Super CIty Block is also a good sunblock, but now I am trying the Paula Choice Barely There Matte Tinted because it's less oily and the colour is better in covering my eczema. So far so good.

For people that go to Maple Clinic, be careful with the Vit C nourishing Cream. It burnt my skin and flared up my eczema even though the cream is supposed to be for sensitive skin. According to a different doctor that I asked, a high concentration of Vit C can make you skin more sensitive.

eczema

I have got extreme serious eczema persist for several years, the national skin center did not help me (neither did most of the docs). It was only recently last year , i find ways to reduce it greatly and my condition improve tremendously by understanding what causes the symptoms to flare. I have stop using steroids cream and medication.

It works for me... so I am in force. However, others may find it very tough cause it involve changing of lifestyle
1)Vegetarian diet (steam , preferably no fried) and fruit diet
2)Gui Ling Gao (Chinese herbal stuff)
3)Avoid the sun as much as possible / stay in air condition environment
4)Meditation (this seem to be very impt to me.. i realize that part of the symptoms are cause by stress)
5)Avoid spicy food at all cause (chili etc)
6)Take 'cooling' stuff (I am not sure why... it seem to work better)
7)Clean environment / no dust especially
8)Swimming (I feel exercise seem to help, but not under the hot sun)
9)Moisturizers
10)Be happy , smile a lot smile.gif
11)Sleep sufficiently (7 hrs minimum)

So far so good ... it has mark improvement of 95% reduction (on facial and other parts of bodies – rashes / itches)compare to the steroids that I am taking (which i have stop now). I am still making some changes to it , which ever will help reduce the symptoms and hopefully , I am able to get to the root of the problem in future and find means to eradicate it (though no none cure for this)

i went to see doc and apply the cream.. but din really help much.. tried all sorts of ways... Moisturizers, medications, creams... but none seems to help at all.. wallbash.gif

think only keeping my legs clean and dry is the best way out... i found that as long there is no sweat on my legs.. my eczema would not be so obvious and itchy... and i switch from wearing jeans to wearing skirts to keep my legs as cool as possible... (though the sight is ugly.. when wearing skirts esp there are lots of dark spots on the legs..)

Hi all I have eczema around my legs.

I'm studying in Australia and the weather is much cooler than in Singapore. Therefore, whenever I travel between the two countries, I will develop ugly rashes because of the weather change.

I really recommend Elomet cream. Very good! rashes cleared in 2 days!

for those who have eczema on the hands, does the flesh under your nails or the cuticle area seemed to become out of shape? i started showing signs of eczema early this year and recently, bout 2 months ago, the flesh under my right ring finger started retracting. then a month ago, my right pinkie cuticle and under nail area also affected. nail surface also became a bit rough like mini dents. is it common? blur.gif

not really sure if its eczema that caused it, haven't seen a doctor cause i know its not curable. now only relying on aloe vera gel from Body Shop and moistrizer from Ellgy. previously used Jergens but it seemed to have made it worst.

arms and around knee area got small small mosquito look a like bumps. not sure if that is also eczema cause it only itches but its not red.

Hey ellusionz,

I do not know about the symptoms on your fingers and hands. Probably you should consult a doctor and understand the condition better. Eczema is not cureable, but at least we can prevent it.

I have small mosquito-bite-like bumps on my thighs, arms and legs. And they are red and itches real bad. If i scratch them, some watery-fluid will ooze out. And if I don't apply Elomet cream to it, it will never heal.

DUN APPLY CALAMINE!!!!!! it will worsen the condition if it is eczema.. I did it and It got wore. cos my doc say eczema is a case of dry skin condition, and calamine will further dry it... and no powder too ....
Pls dun.. I gone thru that part, its very miserable
Try Rose Hip Oil
it really works thou it dun completely cure the eczema, but it helps tp bring it under control... and those with eczema under the eys or on face, u can use the rose hip oil on the face.. if u scare too oily.. jus put a thin thin layer... my eyebag got a bad one i use the oil to curb it.. nw not so bad... it used to look swollen like mosquitoe bite that big on my eye bag....

other than that, after rosehip oil, I will put moisturiser on my affected areas on the body... it helps too control the dryness... not so itchy... rose hip oil works wonderr.. I swear by it

Posted by: Amelia Aug 19 2005, 11:32 AM

agree with cutina on rose hip oil.. it does help with soothing dry eczema skin. But problem is that it's kind of never-ending. After the oil wears off you have to apply again.

~xuan~: Try using moisturizing products on the area (if it's a small area). Fancl worked well for me (though i find it expensive) maybe cos it's preservative free. plus during the work day i apply Balneum cream that helped my eczema area alot.
I think very very important is don't scratch it and don't touch it with dirty hands, must always wash your hands before you apply anything there.
When mine get itchy and inflammed i actually apply ice to it which help to numb off the itch and reduces the swelling and pain.
Afterbattling with it for so long it's finally calmed down by alot (only like 10% peeling compared to last time) and it doesn't itch anymore.

its usually and my shoulder blade!!!! i went to GP, work for awhile and it come back again so i went NSC.. stupid me book online and i chose the MOST EXPENSIVE DOC!!! wahah got a shock when i see the consulation fees, ok main point is, i got medicine, shower cream and moisturier..
its work.. i felt so relieved!! but the doc say it might come back again.. sigh
and yes indeed, recently its recurred!! i know what triggers it... the lobster bisque and i am too stress!!.. i apply my normal moistuirer to it and calm it.. i try to relax myself and aviod my fav soup!!!.. now its back to normal.. sigh!!!

Hi gers..
I had Eczema since i was 13..
Doctor told me is in the genes, is not curable..
SO going to the national skin center or visiting the most expensive doctor would just not help...
He told me that the cycles always go round and round...
rash --> itch --> scratch --> pain..
SO we have to break off the cycle by not scratching.....

In my past years, i realize that hot weather and hot temper, dust etc contributes and worsen the condition.... =(
and always rem to put handcream on ur affected parts after washing.
Example for me, mine are on the hands, so i would apply handcream on my hand after washing my hands..
And I feel that when one should not scratch e affected area with ur finger nails, esp with long finger nails, cos our finger nails can contain germs and bacterial etc which i think might worsen the condition...

I think one can grow out of Eczema...
My aunt used to advise me to soak my hands (Eczema part) in salt water before bathing..
And apply antiseptic cream on the affected area where it itch....

Emma prganics is the cheapest I can find at TTSH. 25ml for $25 bucks
other brands like bioglo is 20 plus for 15ml

I feel that aloe vera is the best cure for eczema. It soothing and moisturizing. But most importantly, apply moisturizer diligently everyday and the rash will lessen significantly overtime.

Posted by: icekitten Aug 25 2005, 05:01 PM

I have been suffering from eczema since young too, for more than 10 yrs oredi. For me, the rash is mostly on my legs. My knees, arms, elbows and even knuckles are affected too but not as much. It is so bad tt I cannot wear shorts and skirts at all. Treatment-wise, I have more or less given up. I have tried nearly everything, from NSC to pte dermatologist, steroid creams, tablets and injections. The steroid injections and tablets could only be given in courses and not taken as a daily medication. Each time I finished a course, my eczema would flare up again. My doc refused to give me any more steroid jabs bcoz he said it would cause hip fractures and osteoporosis. I've even tried pounding fresh aloe vera gel from the leaves and slathering it on my legs. It soothes for awhile bcoz of the cooling sensation but after tt doesn't really help. My doc was unable to give a reason and cure for my condition. I just state it as severe chronic eczema in any forms that I need to state my medical condition. Now I just use steroid cream which I get a fren to get for me from JB, where u can purchase in big tube and without prescription. Those small tubes that they sell in SG last me at most a week or two. On my last visit to NSC, the doc gave me an open date for appt. So I asked him, just come back when my medication is finished to see doc and get medicine again izit? He said yah. With this condition, seeing doc is useless bcoz I m only spending money on repetitive consultations where the doc either says the same thing or nothing, and yet in SG we can't purchase the necessary medication OTC. They should give us a cert or something to declare tt we can purchase steroid creams OTC. My bro is suffering from this condition too, worse he is a Traffic Policeman. Can u imagine how he suffers in the thick starched uniform and heat? He has given up too, only seeing pte dermatologist to get medication when he really cannot bear the itch. My mum and I have spent thousands of dollars seeking treatment, even TCM. I just ren ming lor. And although jeans makes my rash uncomfortable in our hot weather, I have no choice or else I can't even step out of the house. How I envy gals who can wear skirts and capris!
As for Maple clinic, I've been there before. Although Dr Ong is reknown for acne problems, sad to say she did not help my eczema at all, except for plying me with expensive bath oils and moisturizers which did not improve my condition. The bath oil, which cost $28 only served to make my rash itch more. The advice she gave me? "Avoid harsh temperature changes, like from hot weather to aircon or vice versa. Avoid wearing jeans and long pants. Avoid stress." Easy for her to say...... My impression of her was tt she was more interested in selling the bath oil to me which was a brand tt she carried in her clinic. Although I told her I use baby bath and I also have Esemtan. She only reluctantly agreed tt they are mild enough to cleanse eczema skin and suggested tt I try her bath oil first. The medication she gave me? Exactly the same as any other GP. Even more basic medication than what my dermatologist or NSC gave. That single visit cost me more than $150. Perhaps she treats different patients differently, since others have had better encounters with her; maybe I look like a patient who can be 'chop'. But pls take note tt she is not a dermatologist. If u study her med qualifications outside her clinic, she only has a diploma in dermatology.

I heard that for a person who has eczema and has a child, the child will have 50% probability to get eczema too. Is that true? Did anybody hear about this before?

Posted by: elven_princess Aug 25 2005, 06:54 PM

i use those cooling lotions the docs give or i go take a shower..it helps to stop the itch!

Posted by: yukisakura Aug 25 2005, 07:01 PM

i have it too... legs, neck and some areas of my face... my legs seems ok liao but now got alot of scars... went to see NSC but they dun let me stick to the same doc, so the different doctors don't really know what i need. they just say i shld try this or that or shld give it somemore time since mine was quite serious. they even used me to teach the interns... quite humiliating...went to many docs, but once they heard i went to NSC, they sort of "refused" to treat me and just gave me some more creams which were useless. then i went to see this Dr Roy Chiu of Fami Care... he cured my leg ezcema, now only left with scars... however, each visit is very expensive, almost $200-300... think i spent a few thousands there... but at least it worked.

then a breakout came ard my neck. so i went to try maple clinic since everyone says she's good. but In my opinion, i think she is only gd at treating acne problems and not ezcema, cos i din recover from her pills and creams... her treatments are cheaper, but her wait is 2 hours more. so i'm going back to fami care this sun again...

To: Xuan

The QV cream can be bought from guardian or unity pharmacy, most hospital pharmacies also have them. It comes in a tub form and a 500ml tub costs abt $26. must use diligently after bath.

For the face, don't use anything with fragrance, you can try La Roche Posay products from the bigger guardian pharmacies, the prices are not very cheap but works fabulously to moisturize and soothe the itch for me. Also the moisturizer won't give the oily or sticky feeling that other oils do.

My daughter does not have eczema. But she has juvenile chronic arthritis. I've asked doctors about the genetic link but they insisted that eczema does not have any link to her condition, only psoriasis does. During my pregnancy I was prescribed some oral steroids for my eczema (which got really bad during pregnancy). Later on, when my daughter was prescribed steroids to control her arthritis, I realised tt they are both the same - prednisolone. And my daughter's arthritis is one of the more serious cases, those very recurrent type - once medication stop, flare up again, just like my eczema. She has been on medication almost daily since 18 mths old and doctors still can't tell me if it will be for life. The only thing they can say is tt hope she will be among the lucky ones to grow out of the condition. The similarities between her condition and mine are so striking, I just can't help but feel they must be linked somehow, despite docs saying they aren't.

Awhile later a doc called me into another room and there sat a senior (visiting consultant) and two interns! hey all

my dermatitis was on my arms, esp the underside of the elbow part, and at the back of the feet.

Steriodal cream like dermasone helps only if your dermatitis is over a small area. However. long term usage leads to skin thinning and prolongs healing time when there's a recurring flare.

I tried Eu Yan Sang Clinic at south bridge road & i'm beginning to see the healing effects...

Foods to avoid are beef & alcohol.

Also can try DERMAVEEn as moisturing cream. works fantastically.

Now the problem areas have changed to my body, somewhere around the kidney area (body trunk).

Using steriod cream is bad overtime but no choice since this can't be cured, only to be in control. Must be careful of our diet, environment and stress level too.

It's something that can be passed from the parents to their children.. sigh.. Singapore so humid.. I think most people here have this problem..

Skin doctor from National Skin Centre gave me some med and recommended tat i use Cetaphil to bathe.
When his med finished i din go back for mroe and just continued using Cetaphil.
It worked though de results are slow.
My eczema doesnt come back anymore after abt 2yrs of religious Cetaphil usage.

I just wrote regarding the health supplement in Healthy Forum. Maybe , I'd better re-wrrite it here.

I have eczema , so I am taking the supplements that according to research can help with eczema.

1. Blackmores Fish Oil 2x a day (morning and nite after meal). According to research, many eczema sufferers lack of Omega 3, which is essential for healthy skin. Thus, fish oil is a good supplement. I also found out that if I eat many fried food, my eczema is worse. Maybe, because fried food contains many omega 6 and imbalances between omega 6 and omega 3 may cause this. Another bonus, omega 3 is good for brain and help to make people calm (reduce depression).

2. Kordell Probiotic once a day before sleeping. It helps to get rid of bad bacteria in your stomatch. The new added good bacteria is also can help to give more lining in the intestine, so less particle goes to blood stream, which may cause eczema and skin allergic. This brand contain around 5 -6 billions good bacteria. I plan to change to Haba which I believe have more than 10 billions good bacteria.

3. Drink OOlong tea 3 glasses a day. It has some anti inflammation properties because of its fermentation process.

I just started those regime for 1 week. But, I found my eczema slightly better. Now, I use less Protopic cream for my skin. My neck is no more itchy. Previously, even if my hair touches my neck, my neck will itch and rash will appear. My face is not recovered yet. But, it less flared up. Just small spots and they are gone very fast.

I never a believer of supplements, but since I saw improvement in my dad's skin (he also has eczema. I got eczema from him) after he took omega 3 and vitamins (in his case is for health purpose, not for skin purpose) and after my own experience, now I am strong believer in health supplement.

Based on my own experience, the new eczema cream (Protopic) gives the fast result. But, it makes my skin more sensitive. In my case, my skin can suddenly have some red patches without any reason. Maybe, it's because of the Protopic nature, which is to reduce skin's immune system. Now, I try to use different alternatives and cut down Protopic bit by bit.

is it advisable for eczema ppl to skip toner, just cleansing & moisturising only?

Posted by: cindyleelee Dec 16 2005, 12:33 PM

I have eczema about five yrs back and I scratched until my skin bleed.
It takes quite a while to heal. Most important thing is to moisturise.

Posted by: alanis Dec 30 2005, 04:59 PM

Eczema has been torturing me for 20 years... i got it since young and so i visited the doc every week last time when young cos every week rashes appear on different parts of the body... esp the folding areas where your sweat accumulate like the elbow area and behing the knees etc... I dunno if its hereditary but becos i have very sensitive skin which made it all the worst when i kena eczema... I dunno the exact cure also cos i have been to the National Skin Centre for a while, they helped me with a patch test to see what things i am allergic to and after that when i keep going back they just keep giving me the same cream over and over again so i decide to stop and try to treat it myself...

I heard from the doc there that some eczema patients will stop having this problem during their teens but if after that the prob still persists means you are bound to have it for teh rest of your life and i belong to this suay group which makes me feel very sad. It has attacked every part of my body the most serious is once on my face which my eye area sweet till i can hardly see my eyes which is when i decide to seek help from National Skin Centre. But that time is also due to an allergic reaction with the product Roc that the guardian promoter bluff me it could treat my condition and made it much worst in the end. There's once it itch so badly in my whole body that i cannot sleep and cannot do anything... have to rely on medication but later i decide to cut down and now dun depend on medicine anymore...

As for cure i myself is still finding but a few helping tips to share is, its better to keep your skin moisturize cso when your skin is dry, its very easily irritable and itch more easily... and also i heard its very impt to keep your skin clean cos the rashes usu develop on the area where you sweat often so impt to keep those common areas clean but for me maybe is cos my skin sensitive also which made it worst. For one of my fren who recover from it, she say her doc ask her to go to soak in sea water frequently.. i guess it kinda help cos the sea water damn salty rite, the salt kind helps lah which i dunno how. MY guess is maybe the salt help your skin to retain moisture somehow and aslo salt helps to remove bacteria... cos last time i went for camping went for sea acitivities, come back the scaly skin on my leg also disppear so i guess sea water is quite effective. It works for my fren though ahhaha so maybe you guys can try. smile.gif but i can't swim so i din go to the sea often also smile.gif

Mood i guess is impt also cos when you feel irritated it seems to favour the condition and you feel more itchy.. smile.gif SO keep cool k ! smile.gif

sorry for the long post ahhaha cos i really hate Eczema haha so have more things to say ahhaha

I can understand your feelings... I had terrible eczema when I was young. On the back of my elbows and knees, and I scratched them until they were red and raw. And it definitely didn't help that my siblings were teasing me by saying "Disease! Disease!" to me at that time ._.

But fortunately I have it mostly under control now... I went to this skin specialist at Gleneagles called K.B. Lim. The creams he gave me worked, and his advice to use moisturiser everyday also prevented my eczema from acting up. I don't have it anymore, thankfully, though sometimes my neck can get a bit red when I unknowingly scratch it at night.

Anyway the only advice I can give is to moisturise daily (I've stopped doing that... Gotten lazy...) and actually, to avoid bathing and showering with hot water because it actually dries up your skin.

And also, you should like pat your skin dry with the towel after bathing, instead of rubbing yourself dry because it might irritate your skin.

And oh yes, try to wipe off perspiration as soon as it appears. That was one of the main causes of skin irritation for me, and it was especially bad because I'm the kind who perspires a lot very easily. (E.g. when I play sports my whole T-shirt becomes soaked, even if it's the dri-fit kind... Blah.)

Hope the advice helps.

I've had eczema for abt 13 years... it was very very bad when i was abt 11. Now its a bit better... BUT now its on face and neck and legs. No longer at the joints. I hate my face eczema, the hardest to control. hammer.gif

Hmmm... now i'm taking supplements too. Evening primrose oil, vit A, vit C and pine bark extrace which is an antioxidant.

Can anyone who has successfully controlled their eczema successfully please share how you did it?

And yes, i do believe lifestyle plays a part too so share yr lifestyle changes that help the eczema to improve.

gers.. i don't know if i have Eczema..i have been having these itch mainly on my palms and bottom of my feet..it usually starts on my body..then will spread to my palms and feet..really torturing..went to several doctors but all tell me to take note of what i am sensitive to.. but i just cant figure out!!!!!even tried avoiding seafood but still will itch..now have to pop a pill to stop the itch every 2 days..really scared will die of overmedication.. sad.gif

Is my case Eczema????

Posted by: yukisakura Dec 31 2005, 02:19 PM

Eczema does spread around the body cos our body is covered with skin. i have then everywhere, even face. In my opinion its very hard to spot what food a person is sensitive too. image all kinds of food we eat everyday! haha... maybe cos i've never found any obvious signs. i just scratch as and when. can't your doc identify whether they are ezcema? they usually perscribe some steriod cream like dermasone. but for my case, my skin seems to become immune to dermasone... having a good pill does stop you from scratching and helps to lighten the condition too. I think the most impt thing is to find a GOOD doctor... I've been to many of them, and all their creams were useless esp National Skin Centre. HTHs. =)

I had childhood eczema. I use this cream called Elomet and its gotten better since.

During my teenage years the problem faded altogether. But I still have scaly skin on my legs so I use a body lotion religiously.

Hi, what is eczema? My upper lip is peeling non-stop but it doesn't itch. Its has been swollen once and not constantly. Is that eczema? I went to NSC but the prescribed medication didn't work. I tried moisturizing it with vaseline but it failed to work too. Then i used Neutorgena lip moisturizer with SPF 15 and that cured it! But sadly, its back after 6 mths...And the Neutrogena lip moisturizer doesn't help now.

Hi

Just happen to see your posts. I have eczema (whole family has it). But it can be prevented or at least substantially reduced from passing onto your kids. Just remember to TOTALLY breastfeed your child. Wish someone had told me that before. Learnt it the hard way.

For my first child, a girl, I breastfed her during the day, but let the hospital feed her with powdered formula milk at night. That is a very common practice. Didn't know that the formula milk stirred up her immune reaction and that's why she has the worst eczema possible. Always itchy and nothing works, except a very close watch at triggers in diet. And also stress. Very easily flared up by stress, even from school work or quarrels with her younger brother.

For my second child, a boy, I learnt from my reading and experience.
I insisted on TOTAL breastfeeding. Fed him only breastmilk. Nowadays, just book an appointment with a Breastfeeding consultant. All hospitals have at least one. the minute you check in. (or get hubby to tell hospital for you, as usually you may be too occupied with the birth and baby).
My second one has perfect skin. Sure, the initial few days there was eczema in both kids. But for my no. 2, he developed superior immunity from the anti-bodies found only in breastmilk. You see, powdered formula milk is foreign (fit for baby cows, not humans, even though they try to imitate human protein!). That's why babies develop a reaction which leads then to symptoms like eczema, running nose etc.

For babies especially, don't use the creams doctors prescribe as they usually contain steroids, and long term, steriods thin the skin. My face had years of steroid cream and now when I scratch, the skin bleeds and scars easily.

Best way to cool the itch is to spray Avene Water (can get it from John Littles, or even from Guardian Pharmacy). Or get very pure Aloe Vera juice-gel. They sometimes have 20% discount. Not cheap at $20+ but is for a big bottle. The spray has an anti-inflammatory effect that is mild and not damaging to the skin long term. I also appy a kind of rice powder, that cools the skin and reduces the acidity, called in Malay 'Bedak serjok'. I used these on my 2 kids. My boy rarely and hardly gets eczema outbreak (only when he insists on eating too much chips and bread). But for my daughter, I still avoid letting her use the doctor's creams as short term, they may work, like quite a lot of people mention in the forum. Yet, some people have mentioned that they react to the stuff in the creams too.

Oh, and nothing beats drinking at least 1.5 litres of clear distilled or filtered water. My daughter went to a detox programme where she drank nothing but filtered water and juice of 6 lemons squeezed into 1.5 litres, mixed with just enough Maple syrup and fruit salad for 3 days. Felt so much better and skin was noticeably less itchy. Also had detox herbal tablets, can buy them at Expressions. They are okay (not pushy if you explain that it's eczema and you don't need to lose weight).

Hope this helps.

My boyfriend got eczema on both his lower legs for about 6 months or so. Its horrible! He will scratch and scratch, you will always see blood stains on the bedsheet.

Recently i came across this cream called Renew Intensive Skin Therapy. Got him to try and it works miracle! He stopped scratching when the itch goes away after 2 days of applying. Within 2 weeks, his skin got better and now his skin is almost 80% healed. I'm amazed by the works of this cream. It also can be use as a moisturiser for dry skin and minor skin irritations.

For myself, i got hyper sensitive skin. I'm actually allergic to many brands of lotion/cream, will have rashes after i applied. Lucky this cream works for me good.gif yeah.gif

I have eczema on my hands. Used to have it at the sole of my feet and behind the legs. The feet and legs eczema has gone. Just have to moisturise them everyday. As for the hands, it's getting better but never heal because I have to type and have contacts with detergent when washing clothes or dishes (too lazy to wear gloves). so... Sighz... still hoping for it to fade soon. Better still, ask my brother/bf to wash the dishes... laugh.gif

my mum sometimes say use chinese medicine to cure it..

say ..blood "dirty"...den drink some seahorse soup to cleanse the blood.

i had it since very young too....no choice la...live wif it....juz live normal life la..

they say dun bathe too much cas:
1) wound muz be kept dry...
2) soap will dry the skin
3) soap will kill healthy bacteria on our skin
4) skin will be allergic to some soap.

even wif eczema, i still jog and swim...heck care...after swimming, eczema tends to recover faster for me...cas got chlorine i think...cas i believe need healthy body, den will have less chance of an outbreak...haha..but still get it once in a while..haiz.

Posted by: celestronz Jun 8 2006, 01:50 PM

too much of those steriod cream for extended use, they say not gd for health...
anyway too much of any medicine for other body is not gd for health..

thus for me, i let my eczema recover by itself rather than apply those cream to alleviate...as the rate of outbreak will decrease...

but hate those weeping wounds...arggg....hard to recover...

Hi girls,

I have been to many doctors and specialists over the years. I recommend Dr Phay Ken Lin from Specialist Skin Clinic. She is very patient and not pushy at all. And her medication works. National Skin Centre didn't work at all for me... sadly coz everytime also give the same prescription rather than tailoring it to my condition at that point of time.

For moisturizer i recomment QV cream. Try not to use those that are too watery, wouldn't work as well. Another one that is very good if you have hand eczema is Silic 15. Acts as a barrier treatment and prevents yr hands from environmental stress and drying out. Available from guardian at abt $7+ a tube. Using this and steroid cream my hand eczema is cleared up totally.

Im a victim since young till 19.
I suspect it due to having "yellow skin" when i was a baby.

Remind me of my sadness...
Pri/Sec sch wore skirts, bloody wounds n scars can be seen lo.
Pull socks higher pointless sad.gif
A guy fren of mine saw our group photo n point to the leg scars in the photo. N ask me how come like dat?
Having hair-cut, the hairdresser saw my dry patchy redish neck. Aiyo! Ya face complexion so good y ya neck like dat?

HELLO U THIN I WAN MEH?

My siblings dun hae lo. Except me!

I went for NSC for treatments. I can tell U its a waste of $ lo.
Doc keep saying dun scratch lah, dun bathe wif hot water lah, dun use soap lah n Blah blah blah.
I stop seeing her. Cos I c no point paying hundreds juz to go there to hear her same old saying n same supply of medicine hammer.gif

I rather use the hundreds n be own doctor n find my own cure!
I DID IT!

I bot "Cetaphil" to bathe n "vaseline" moisturiser to apply.
Trust me dun be lazy! Moisturise daily after bathe. Now Im used to it. If one day after bathe I nv apply, I'll feel weird.

I trim my nails short. To prevent myself frm scatching at nite.

As for my scars, I used "Mederma" 50g gel. $30.90. Available at Guardian.
I applied 3-4times a day. Rub gently on the scars.
Effects 3mths like dat can c. Now no more le. Onli light pigmentation if closely c. No more dark brown ugly scars! smile.gif

FINALLY!
Go classes always wear shorts or mini skirts redface.gif

Got a great job offer too! good.gif
Gotta grow my nails liao. Guess gotta wear gloves to zzz...

Read it frm somewhere dat as U grow older, Eczema will out grown.

hmm.. those who are suffering from eczema, most important is not to take dairy products.. any product that contains cow's milk, cheese and tomatoes. cuz there are some substances in these foods that prevent healing of the wounds..

yeah.. some of my tips from the doctor la..

hi to all podders who have eczema,
my heart goes out to you cos' my 2 boys have it and it was very tough helping them with their skin conditions. The turning point came when I brought them to see a chinese sinseh whom I got to know from a TV documentary on skin problems. My elder son's skin is much clearer now tho it looks dry, he does not itch as much and most importantly, the skin cleared up.

Please message me if you are interested to get the chinese sinseh contacts.

best regards.

why cant they find a cure for this stupid condition

Posted by: alet88 Jun 30 2006, 11:49 AM

nsy87: Hi girl, I used to have ecezma on the legs especially behind the knees. The type that is forever itchy and scaly and sometimes will bleed if I get too itchy hand. sad.gif It has disappeared somehow when I was in Melbourne. What I did was apply moisturiser everyday. Do a full body scrub once in a while. Keep a good healthy diet and drink lots of water. It helps a lot in lightening of the scars. I do not suggest going for chemical peeling or any chemical surgery. The chemicals used may aggrevate the condition even more.

As for your face, you should perhaps try something that's for sensitive skin and do a moisture mask at least once a week. It will help to calm down the itch. Just don't go and scratch it. If you feel itchy, just tap it with your clean hands or poke it but no scratching.

Ecezma cannot be cured. Only can prevent. Have to be hard working and apply a good moisturiser everyday.

Sometimes if I'm lazy, the skin on my hands can peel one. Or it can just appear anywhere. That last time it appeared on my neck, but was lucky to manage to stop it from spreading.

Hi everyone

I have been having Eczema since I was a baby or least according to my mum. I dare not say I am superly experience but did quite a fair of study so that I can help myself better.

All those steroids cream/lotion that everyone has mentioned in this thread I have already tried. Yes, it does help but only for the moment. Honestly there is no perm cure to this problem.

Most of the cases are caused either by stress or enviormental factors. But it's always better for you to find out exactly what causes your Eczema to flare up. I went to NSC to do patch test to find out exactly what causes mine and then from there I start all my precautions excerise. However as we grow older, the causes may change esp for us females, pregancncy and hormones changes will affect the causes also.

I am one of those many whereby the moment I am stressed, weather turns hot and in contact with certain carpets or furs will causes my rashes to start. My rashes has in fact spread to all parts of my body. you name it I will have it. eg neck, face, eyes lid, front elbows, side of my legs, behinds the knees, practically every folds of the body, I already have some scars or marks on it.......

At times it's so unbearable, I had to Cetrizine at least 3 times a day to stop the itch....That's already very serious.

I can only advise all to determine the cause of your Eczema problem before taking advise from anywhere and starting healing yourself. Cos what works for others may not work on you.......And yes, like many here already knows too much steroids cream/lotion can only harm our skin.

Do take care everyone flower.gif

hi all, i have eczema on my leg too, since my childhood. Very sad because i can't wear skirt & short. When ppl ask me why dun wear skirt, i just said i dun like. sad.gif but actually i am hoping so much i can wear it cry_smile.gif

But since i see one doctor at Commonwealth Drive, my leg stop itching. Now i only control it by applying cream smile.gif But the mean time, i also taking Vit E, think this helped me also.

For those who has same problem with me, no harm trying this doctor. About $30 for consultation + medicine, depends on what medicine he gives you.

Address : The Family Practice Clinic & Surgery
Blk 117 Commonwealth Drive #01-723

Now, i only wish to reduce my scars. I will try Mederma... Hope it can help me.
If anyone knows how to reduce scars, please let me know.

we're in the same situation patti74..i had it since a toddler and am super allergic to almost alot of things includ food which can trigger off the eczema..on top of that, i'm suffering from a sinus problem.. it's quite hard to be stress-free to control the breakouts.. laugh.gif

Posted by: Crowley Jan 30 2007, 11:43 PM

I just applied my ezcema cream then I logged on to Flowerpod and saw this thread haha..

Its something that I had from young too.. used to have big patches on my legs and knees but it cleared up. Now there's like a a permanent big patch on my right feet and ankles.. I think the worst part is the itchiness. ><

Clarsista, I have sinus problems too, guess the 2 are inter-related huh. I guess there's nothing we can do.. After applying the steroid creams for so long, they dont seem to work anymore. All I can do is just moisturise everyday I guess. (:

I have ezcema and extremely senstive and dry skin according to my GP. He prescribe this hypoallergenic and non comedegenic cream that helps to relieve redness and irritation. No added chemicals/fragrance to achieve the benefit. I tried for 3 days, apply twice daily and the redness will subside. Product is called Physiogel A.I Cream. Try googling this, they have proper official website to explain. Hope this helps fellow ezcematic sufferers like me! biggrin.gif

Besides applying moisturiser, we also have to be careful of our diet. Certain food e.g. nuts, eggs, chocolates, milk may trigger eczema.

You can use a skin care for delicate/sensitive skin. After applying the moisturiser, you can apply the sunblock.

Just do as your GP tells you. It'll go off after a while. Be patient though. smile.gif

Hai, seems like this is a common problem. I just had an eczema flare and now I'm itching like duno what. It is very ironic, but my problem only got worse because I mixed two different creams (betopic and eunovate). Suddenly the betopic inflamed my skin and made me itch even more. *sian*

Yup I have. For the face right? The brand is Artistry. I'm using it myself. And I feel that it's really gentle, fragrance and alcohol free. Doesn't contains any skin irritants. I'm also sensitive to alcohol and fragrance in skin care products. You can PM for details. smile.gif

QV is more moisturizing. For even better effect, u can consider sorbolene cream. As long as the skin is well moisturised, the appearance will become lighter over time.

Ive heard that eczema is pretty common for those living in hot tropical countries...only the degree of the condition differs.. is that true ?

Anyway ive been suffering with eczema on my lower left leg for 5 years now it has worsen over the years. The funny thing is, i cant recall what caused it cos i dun drink alcohol, eat seafood or was never allergic to anything before !

Earlier when my condition wasnt too bad, I went to the GP and he gave me anti-fungal cream with conazole.. it did worked for a while..now it doesnt at all !
It gets so itchy and dry with dark brown patches, flakes and dried blood ! I feel like a leper really !

Where can I get this steroid/protopic cream ? Is that the name of the brand ? Or the ingredients in the cream ? Some creams I apply will make my skin itch even more..I hope that these wont..

Im in dire need of help !!

Posted by: alet88 Feb 17 2007, 04:08 PM

Sometimes is because of the air and change of lifestyle. You'll feel itchy when your skin is moist. So keeping the skin dry yet moisturizing is pretty impt.

For me, constent applying of body lotion does help to prevent the eczema from coming back. smile.gif

Maybe can try detox cos i knew a guy who tried detox and imu6 colostrum and he's completely ok now. But there's a healing crisis. During that period, he was itching all over. Think his problem was serious in the past. My bf only had it on his feets.

However, any podders having the same problem as me? Any ways to stop the itch and which doctors do u visit???

I just wanna shake this skin problem as soon as possible......

hey there no way to shake. It is in you. i do have the same problem also. Mine is dry one.. u can only control it once u r stress, it will just come back. take vit b complex and take chamomile tea.i am using it.

Posted by: alet88 Apr 17 2007, 06:00 PM

I had it since young too. First I had in on my feet, then it recovered, then later on my tummy, it recovered too. Then I had it behind my knees, it recovered, and now I'm having it on my palms.

I find the palms the most difficult to cure because you always need your hands to work, use and everything else. The other parts of your body, it's easier because you don't really use them when not in used. Just have to apply moisturiser and don't scratch those ecezma areas. smile.gif

know what triggers your eczema. for me, eating orange and chicken will meke my eczemas itch afterwards, so i avoid them as much as possible.

my bf has eczema.. it was ok for the past few years (not visible except that some parts of his arms and legs will be red occasionally when the weather is really hot) but recently it suddenly flare up and is rather serious now.. *heartpainz*.. he went to see some specialist at changi hospital (some recommendation from his fren) and the doctor gave him steroids which only works temporarily. sad.gif i'm gg to ask him to try detox and apply LOTS of moisturiser.. will read through this thread later when i have time to note down all the ways u pp have recommended also.. then probably i'll ask more questions later on.. hee.. tongue.gif

Anyway, my bf has eczema since young.. I'm not sure how old exactly but i guess ard 10? And i think one of the doctors he visited advised him not to use facial foam. So he hasn't use any facial foam at all till 19? (he'll jus use the detol soap bar previously and now he's 23) But that has resulted in some oil seeds on his face.. I kept urging him to go for facials to remove them but he's afraid that his skin will be sensitive and facial will make it worse. Any of u went for facials despite having eczema on face area? Does it really make it worse?

I did facials when I had eczema. Do facials for sensitive skin. Yup facial foam do dry the skin faster and easily. Try a cleanser for sensitive skin. BTW, what you use on the body should not be used on the face. The facial skin is thinner and more delicate than the skin on the body. smile.gif

hihi
i've had eczema since 6 months old. been very very bad. all over arms, legs, face, back everywhere! sometimes so itchy that i scratch and it becomes very red raw and sore. ends up with scaring in some places.
tried many creams, steriods etc. nothing works.
except about one month and 1/2 ago i read something that said many may be allergic/intolerant to foods such as wheat, dairy, gluten and soy. i already have an severe allergy to peanuts so i am used to dealing with allergies.
so i cut out wheat, soy, gluten and dairy for a month.
suddenly i don't feel itchy, everything clears up! eczema disappears! then i retry eating wheat, dairy and soy and it comes back again!
now avoiding for good and will soon have clear skin again.

Thanks alet88!

Btw, i read from another thread about this BBH pills that will help the body to detox.. I went to the website and it says that sometimes when the body is unable to get rid of toxins, eczema results.. so does that mean that taking the pills to detox would help curb eczema? Anyone tried and it works? And, is there really slimming effects? heh.. TIA! biggrin.gif

Eczema is caused by a few reasons…

Sometimes it is an colon problem (too much toxic accumulated),
sometimes it is because of weaker liver (our liver is in charge of detoxing so when our liver cannot detox properly, the toxic will be expel from our skin, in the form of eczema),
sometimes it is because of some other weak portions in your health,
Sometimes it is due to acidity in the body.

the fastest way i know to get rid of eczema once and for all is to do a detox.

A detox is healthy because it brings balance back to your body. So at the end of the detox, you will find yourself get more energetic, healthier, more radiant looking as well.

And the detox is simple. All you need to do is three things.

Number one, follow the detox programme which requires you to change your diet a little bit. Eg, take more vege and less meat and seafoods.

Number two, use 1 minute a day to take some natural health foods that I take to enhance the speed and the effect of the detox.

Number three, drink lots of water to flush the toxins out..

And that's it. wink.gif

Seriously? I've eczema since young and never heard of curing it via detox. It only cures my pimples which are actual toxins that expels through your skin in any areas if your body has problems detoxing itself. Detox itself helps in a lot of areas like healing some areas of the body. But you must maintain after detox, if not everything goes back to square 1.

Eczema for me, happens when I touch dust or something dirty or in dry weather. Nothing to do with detox. Eczema is a skin condition which we must learn to live with and control it.

And yes, I did detox before, it does help in a way because of the good diet. You will definitely get better skin, and lose some weight at the same time. It helps in eczema in the sense if you're not using your skin for touch and doing things like the hands or feet...

But does nothing for my eczema, I have eczema on my hands, I suffer from childhood asthma which also leads to eczema. I have poor quality fingerprint because of this.

What really helps me to cure the condition is constant cleaning of the area and applying moisturiser that doesn't contain any alcohol nor fragrance. smile.gif

hmm.. sounds like detox has a few other benefits even if it really doesn't help to curb eczema.. which detox programme did u all try out and find it good? BBH?

Posted by: alet88 May 4 2007, 10:54 AM

I did the detox written by a taiwanese doctor. No fats, no meat. Just salad, sweet potato, meal replacements, proteins, and supplements.. etc for 2 weeks.

Posted by: white_african_violet May 4 2007, 11:21 AM

yes, i think detox is impt cos the last round when i kena, my chinese physician says its due to the blood that has alot of parasites - eeeee... i dun wan to think abt that - rem those cases where parasites breeding inside your body and the worms came out - so scary.. thats y must detox@@@@

Posted by: ice_gal May 4 2007, 02:22 PM

wah.. the parasites part sounds scary.. glad it's over for u now.. smile.gif

sorry gals, actually i'm still quite new here and i jus realised there's another thread more about detox.. will check it out there instead.. heh.. thanks! redface.gif

well.. i m a sufferer from eczema too, i gt very bad eczema problem.. my eczema started to appear on my legs 1st, it then spread to my tighs, back, shoulders, arms, fingers and even my earlops... cry_smile.gif tt was terrible.. esp when the itch come along.. my bedsheet was often stained with blood and fluid that resulted from the scatching.. n if the weather is too hot.. i cant even sleep well.. not to mentioned abt wearing shorts n skirts.. i cnt even wear short sleeves... often, i would gt stares from strangers, esp in MRTs..

I used to be very active in sports in my school days, like swimming, hiking, treking.... but ever since i gt eczema, i got to stay away from these activities.. cos i cn never endure the itch in outdoors, esp perspiring under the hot sun.. similar to some of you who have posted a reply, me too.. tried lots of ways to "recover" from it. From visiting GPs to NSC, raffles hospitals, TCM..etc, but didnt really see any improvement.. mind you, all these consultation are really costly... and those creams n medication, dun really help. steriod and steriod creams are the most common medication tt i get from these docs.. sufferers out there.. if possible, try not to apply too much of these steriod creams.. as for me, it does help to relieve my itch, but i ended up with very dark patches on my legs. "To use moisturisers is the best solution" as advised by most of the docs too.. but for me again.. my eczema actuali worsen.. i was advise it might be due to the wrong kind of moisturiser that i use.. n i got another one, followed by another.. bt ntg seems to help.. from using normal body wash to those parmactical ones...bt dun reali helps oso..me too kinda "ren ming" too.. and of cos.. very depress over my condition..

Detox programme, wasnt an in-thing that time, bt however, due to my condition, i gave it a try, it was initially a reali torture during the detox period.. my eczema very worsen and i cnt be in contact of any medication, steriod creams.. and strict diet!!! reali thot of giving up.. but after the 1st week or so... i cn reali see the improvement on my skin.. the detox lasted for a mth or so.. after 3 mths of controlled diet.. eczema on my fingers and arms cleared.. thou the scars are still there due to the scatching.. slowly, those on my shoulders, back and tighs started to dry up and also those on my legs.. i m still not fully recovered yet.. still with "active" one on my legs, bt no more the kind of terrible itching tt i used to have.. alreadi able to wear short sleeves, of cos not skirts yet.. those scarring on my legs are still very bad.. bt i m reali thankful tt i need not sufferred those agony anymore..

my recomendation, to the sufferers, treat yourself as a baby... smile.gif avoid all pdts that u deem a baby cnt use.. forget abt those pdts that indicate for sensitive skin, it wun reali do much help.. gt for pdts that are really natural and soap free!!! the brand i m using now is called "petalsence" not available in the retail mkt yet..but if interested, can drop me an email.. for those that cnt stop the itch, try using pine solution to bathe... it reali help to relieve the itch.. cn gt it at guardian or unity.. smile.gif similarly muz be careful on diet.. eat lots of vegetables..less meat.. less seafood (preferably none).. and most imptly, lots of "good" water!!! biggrin.gif

I am like this too. My cousin is currently training to practise this method of diagnosing the allergy but I am never free to be tested by him.

My other cousins already tested. Some allergic to eggs, wheat, raising flour etc. It is definitely better than taking steroid.

One other thing I found is: Eucerin. Use the bath oil and lotion. Saved me.

Hey babes,

Previously I was using Body Series to moisturise my body, it really helps a lot in healing and moisturising the areas. However, my hands didn't heal much or easily get irritated due to the continuing using of hands for chores etc.

Am currently using Calendula Cream from Jurlique. Although it's really costly, but I can slowly see that the cuts on my hands due to Ecezma are slowly healing up. Though not yet baby smooth, but I feel that it's worth a try after all the years of ecezma.

My bf has eczema on his feet but it cured after taking some products.
However, now his feet started again. Not sure if it's eczema. Does wearing socks more than 14 hours a day caused eczema?

Posted by: alet88 May 18 2007, 09:28 AM

Try to keep the area dry though. Apply some powder so that the feet don't get moist and later causing itchiness. It helps too. wink.gif

Yup... eczema is caused by allergy. For me, medicated oil, dryness, dust, or any other chemicals in washing liquid will irritate my eczema . However, eczema is also link to asthma. I have asthma and when I was on check ups, the doctor told me that my eczema is link to it.

He wears socks. Is it because there is "no air"? Should be dry when wear socks right?

Posted by: windygal May 21 2007, 03:15 AM

My bf's feet recovered just 2 days after using a cream called Zaricort, which was recommended by the pharmacist. Think it contains steroid. He told the pharmacist that it's fungal infection but he used a few fungal cream also doesn't help. But this one works.

I think not advisable. Even the pharmacist asked my bf to apply only for a week only.
Why not try colostrum for pregnant lady? (Can pm me for more info. In case it's advertising.)

allow me to share my experience with eczema to everyone,

I had it since sec 4, due to unknown factors, most likely, I shaved too frequently on my calves.

Ways to counters which works for me
diet - cutdown intake of seafood, fish is fine, sea cucumber is fine too(collagen!)
-take plenty of fruits and water
- pearl powder optional
-zinc supplements yes
- vit A supplements yes
- Evening Primrose oil yes
- say no to Royal Jelly

detox programme - cleanse your body, flush out toxins, fresher body, and skin too.

steroid cream (better drop it) - i'm suffering a bit of the adverse effects of this cream, acne, increased hair growth.

Tar treatment - do have some adverse effects too, but better than the former.

TCM methods - Raffles TCM

lastly - DON'T SCRATCH!

Don't scratch! I know it's really hard.. but it will help not to scratch it. It's your worst enemy. Try applying some lotion to sooth the itchiness. smile.gif

hey guys,

I went to Dr Loke skin clinic recently.

the doctor gave me a lotion for my back acne and it really helps
my back used to be horrible, full of small pimple/acnes with bumps everywhere.

Now, just after 1 week of application, my skin is visibly lightened and the bumps have became smaller.

Also,
i have atopic eczema, happens everywhere not just on the limbs.
But recently, after 3 years of battling with eczema, reaction comes like once in 6months.

However, now i have lota of mozzie bites now and then, as you guys know. our bites do NOT go away and the SCARS STAYS!
Now i'm suffering with dark brown marks all over my legs : (

Dr Loke however gave me some really STRONG CREAM for the bites and marks.
He did say it contained STRONG STEROIDS but i should not worry.

How long do you think i should use the STEROID cream?
(my marks and bites do not each like mad anymore with the cream)

Love

nah,

its plain silly to apply steroid to improve thinning hair.

first, its risky business,

as it actually will thin the skin, and will cause acne outbreak,

apparently some reports say will have an adverse effect to the nerves.

I have seen multiple dermatologists and none put me on other creams til i voice out.

sigh~ they will say steroid is the best treatment.......

just 2 days ago ive got a like white spots on my legs, closer look the white spots surrounds the pores

yesterday suddenly got itchy and the spots became red

like many tiny red spots (on my pores) on my legs. they are v rough to touch too...
it looks like something i got when i tried to shave my legs once, i think its some allergy reaction due to sensitive skin

does it sound anything like eczema?

getting worried, it is itchy and i THINK it gets itchy when its just slightly warmer..

Those patches usually disappear after 5 min, but I still feel that they are a cause for concern

Posted by: helena_ampjam Dec 9 2007, 02:22 AM

Go see your doctor to get medicated cream for them first. I find that cetaphil is a good cleanser, i used it when my outbreak on my legs were pretty bad. Also remember to regularly moisturize, best time is after you take a bath, use a more water-based moisturizer because they are not as rich stand less chance of irritating your skin. Dry skin is the cause of the itching and bumps, if you keep scratching they'll turn into open wounds and leave scars.

I find that bathing with cooler water is better for my skin because if i use water that is too hot my skin turns a bit red and i'll have heat rash, same if i stay in a room without aircon or fan. I found that the heat was most of my problem, another problem was because i used shower foams that were too drying- i can't take those they sell in the supermarket cause they really dry out my skin and give me rash. I can't even take Dove.
I tried body shop, l'occiatane and they don't dry out my skin. I've stuck with them for years. good.gif

Hi, try Physiogel cream or lotion. These moisturising cream helps the most when you apply within 3 mins, after you bath. Apply Steroids always before moisturising cream and not after as they can't absorb.

Hope it helps!

Steroid will help but PLEASE don't get any of those WITHOUT doc's prescription because the strength of the steroid is very important or you skin will get thinner and thinner.

Go to National Skin Center, you can look for Prof. Giam or Prof. Hugo.

btw, physiogel is a moisturiser? i had used several type of moisturiser like cetaphil, aqurea & etc, tend to be itcy after few hours of applying, currently using a moisturiser from 1 MLM company which call G&H lotion which contain glycerine & natural honey.

for steriod cream, been using few type for different area like fluocinolone, elemot, pimecrolimus (face)....

i glad i saw this thread, which really help sharing prevention method from flaring among the community. smile.gif

I developed a very severe case of eczema about 2 years ago...in 2005...I suspected a few things that led to the deveoping eczema.

I used to wear clothes that are not dry...cuz sometimes, I run out of clothes and I just pick up any semi-dry clothes which still has moisture...Very commonly is jeans.

I didn't heed my mom's words then about 3 months later, after continuosly wearing semi-dry jeans, my thighs had very very bad eczema. I went to NSC.

At the same time, I suspected I drank too much alcohol. I was drinking alot of wine.

Went to NSC, they say cannot cure but can curb the situation. Now I don't even have eczema. I don't know why but I try not to scratch as much as possible because scratching causes more eczema. I used herbalife's aloe vera gel, which acts as a moisturizer.

I think you can just use any moisturizer. Aloe vera is the best healing "skin-healer" plant that was ever created. You can see Himalaya or what...it is better to use the more expensive ones. When it is itchy, I use the herbalife one...after 1 week gone...

Use products which do not have alcohol substance...

You should have been suffering from Contact Dermatitis, it's an eczema resulting from allergy to a skin irritant, most probably your wet jeans, wet jeans may house bacteria and your skin could have an reaction due to that, you may be also allergic to alcohol, do get tested to find out the reason.

It's not true that people with eczema can use any type of moisturizer, i find that heavier ones result in my skin getting very uncomfortable or even slightly inflamed when i apply and step out of my air con room, because my skin is sensitive, one example is body shop body butter, it's too heavy for me.

Pure Aloe Vera is good for helping your skin cool down from inflammation but it's not enough to moisturize the skin, but if it's included in moisturizer it is enough.

Your eczema is probably a reaction, it's different from most people here because we have Atopic Eczema, it's hereditary and usually comes with asthma and hay fever. I used to have chronic asthma and i still get bad hay fever when i am exposed to large quantities of fresh flowers (aka.pollen).
People with atopic eczema avoid flower farms etc at all costs, it'll turn into a nightmare when you deal with the reactions halfway through, i got dragged into one and i couldn't take it after fifteen mins, i ran out with my face all red, eyes tearing, sneezing non-stop etc.

Hi, you can buy it National Skin Center, it's cheaper there.

Just been to NSC today under the recommendation of my GP. Was given the elomet cream, supericort cream, 2 tubs of ICM moisturisers. Really cost me a bomb.

By the way, any good doctors you guys would like to recommend in the NSC?

if its heat rash, u just apply the snake picking heat powder or calamine lotion will do, no need for steroid

i have been suffering for dry plams for a mths already, i feel the tightness and dryness esp after washing my hand. i apply moisturiser very often but it didnt really help the prob. if i didnt bring out my moisturiser, my hands would b dry and painful that i cant even open a bottled drink sad.gif
However, i do not suffer from any severe flaking on my hand, just more creases on it.
for this kinda prob, do u consider it as eczema?

Eh not really, cause if you don't have rashes etc then it's not an allergic reaction, looks like the cause is the kind of handsoap you are using. It could be too drying for your skin, do change to a moisturizing one, you could also buy gloves to wear when you sleep, they help lock in moisture, if you are worried consult a doctor.

Body Shop's spa wisdom is good, i am using the pink bottle, it's very light and water-based, absorbs very quickly. I plan to try out a few more brands, see if they are suitable ^^

thanks ya.
I tried body whip cream from natural resources. it turns out to be a nightmare..
scratch my whole body until siao.. quickly bathe again to remove all traces of the cream on my body.
the itchness then ease... so scary..

I get that with certain moisturizers that are too thick also, the itch/uncomfortable feeling will only go away when i rinse myself under water and towel off. =(
When i was young i didn't know that i had eczema, and my old house didn't have air con, i had trouble sleeping because my skin on my legs specially itched so bad, i didn't use moisturizer and i used normal shower gel you buy in the supermarket, it was so horrible, i scratched till my skin started bleeding and the clotted blood formed these small scabs, it was so painful, even now i prefer to stay in my room when there is air con, i can't stand much heat but i live in a 16 C environment. =D

Which brand of body moisturisers are the ones you have used and find it effective?

Is the ICM aqueous cream useful? I was given that...

so glad i found this thread! i thought i was the freak out of my group, because my friends all don't seem to have this problem that was thought to be common. i just bought the renew intensive moisturizer/lotion. one of the podders recommended in the earlier pages and another relative also happens to be using this and raves about it, so i asked her to get one for me and i really do agree that it works wonder! prefer it to eucerin, which doesn't last long after washing off. and it actually soaks into the skin completely instead of just sitting on top of the skin for god knows how long.
but it does takes quite a while to be absorbed completely like maybe an hour plus .. which is too long in my POV so it affects my writing as i'm still a student sad.gif

i think mine is mild eczema so it works, but then i haven't been to a doctor yet .. so i dunno if it works for others, but it's really worth a try .. don't mistake this as some advertisement but i'm only reinstating this lotion because i find it very underrated and thus not easy to get. i was only lucky that my relative got men lu to buy this product for me. i think for now, i just stick to this instead of going to the doctor ...

u can easily find calamine lotion at pharmacy like guardian, watson, unity, look under the section whereby they display all those antispectic lotion and bandage.

i was just wondering if it's the norm for an injection when you guys go to the doctor for ezecma? i just went to a doctor today because my hand was getting really itchy. the clinic is a really rundown old clinic at balestier road. i was really very skeptical about it except for the fact that my father brought me there because he himself frequents it for the past 20 years.
now the vesicles are gone and it's not itchy and my hand has lost its reddish patches. only very dry skin that's waiting to be pulled off, and that's because i haven't applied my own cream and the doctor's cream yet.

so just in case you guys didn't have an injection, maybe you can try to go for an injection to stop the itchiness?

Posted by: Skyeagle Dec 31 2007, 01:26 PM

If I am not mistaken, the injection contains steroids. The steroids will help to suppress the eczema from flaring.

It is the fastest way of supressing the eczema compared to oral steroids. But too much steroids in the long run will cause side effects to the body.

Posted by: mungo Dec 31 2007, 11:59 PM

i also have eczema!! cry_smile.gif it started only after i went into NS... wallbash.gif

went national skin centre before, but they also don't know cause. most of those cream contain steroids ba? my friend told me steroids may have side effects to mine... mine... "little bird".. blink.gif

anyway, one cream i applied made my arm grow hair, so take care what you apply~ nerd.gif

i jus got my injection on new year eve sad.gif....

very painful one, due to tat kind of medication in e jap

Posted by: helena_ampjam Jan 2 2008, 03:28 AM

For me if i suddenly develop a kind of allergic reaction to some kind of new medicine or some bug bite, my skin will turn lobster red and my face will sometimes be a bit swollen, and uncontrollable itching then i will run and see a doctor and he'd usually inject me. I prefer taking injections rather than be given some kind of cream because the injection works so much faster. You just have to relax while being injected, tensing will cause your muscles to tighten and thus the area will hurt more.

Posted by: lolitha_princess Jan 2 2008, 04:32 AM

hi, read tt some of u go for injection for eczema, wad kind of injection is it? (as i oso went before but dunno wad injection is it realli, jus injects, & den one of d doc say it may cause harm to my skin.) maybe i think is anti-itch injection/ anti-redness/ anti-inflammatory injections somewhat...? blink.gif

Posted by: Skyeagle Jan 3 2008, 10:57 PM

I am pretty sure the injections contains steroids. It has anti-itch, anti-inflammatory properties.

Normally there are 3 methods whereby the steroids are used as adviced by doctor:

1) Creams
Most of them contain steroids which long term usage will make your skin 'thinner'

2) Oral Steroids
Most doctors would prescribe prednisolone to suppress the eczema if your eczema flare up is very bad. Prednisolone is a type of oral steroid which has harmful side effects for prolong usage. U may like to search around the internet for the side effects. Depending on dosage, ur eczema will be suppressed if u take oral steroids.

3) Thru Injections
The fastest is by injection since the steroids are delivered into the body directly. Maybe overnight u can see the results already.

It is not advised to go for frequent injections as they have the worst side effects.

I nv try injection for eczema before. My consultation doc in NSC only give me steriods cream but it could not fully treat the eczema that I have on my feet even by using the full strength steriod. I still have some dry flaky skin on my big toe area. Does the injection fully cured ur eczema? Im finding some other alternative ways of treating it. I have been using moisturizer currently instead of the steroid cream to prevent it from getting worse.

will eczema flare at the breasts area?

I have it on my fingers den my body start having, now around the breast too.
Would it be advisable to apply those creams on the breasts as well?
I'm now applying a cream prescribed by GP called ultrafex.

Posted by: pinkO Feb 27 2008, 10:17 AM

Have read that many of you went to the national skin center but despite the high costs, it doesnt help so i guess i will not go there.

As i do not know wat trigger my eczema to flare up again, i'm thinking of going there to do a patch testing and prick testing.

May i noe what are the charges i will be looking at ?

Posted by: Nellie Feb 27 2008, 07:10 PM

I had it real bad when I was younger, so bad that i didnt go to school. And NSC really made it even worse for me by giving me prednisolone and those steroid cream. The cream itself already thin my skin and at that time I really bleed easily and the oral medications really made me extremely weak that my mom decided to make me stop all kind of medications from NSC.

I still have it, dry skin and inflammed skin when stay out in sun too long. But it is so much better and under control. Just try my best to stay out of the sun and lather on adequate amount of emollient.

Posted by: Jazzzlin Feb 29 2008, 11:37 AM

i had eczema too. it made my skin feels so dry, so tight and i can see big red lumpy bumps on my hands and thighs. Itchy me, scratch it and it got worse.

The oral medication tat doc prescribed me just stop e itch for a while and then it itch like hell again. As for the cream, its totally useless.

My cousin recommend me Clarins Moisture Rich Body Lotion. I'm using tat and a miracle, it's recovering fast. In one week, i can see big improvements and no more big red lumpy bumps on my body.

Sometimes it do itch especially when i eat seafood, chicken and egg during my outbreak, all i have to do is to apply Clarins on the affected area and next morning i woke up, i seen some improvements.

Posted by: shanbeam Feb 29 2008, 06:04 PM

My eczema's terrible, and sometimes it would weep and gets really itchy. I apply the strongest steroid creams available once a day, max. twice a day. But I'll avoid applying the steroid cream unless it's really bad, 'cos the skin would be thinner aft prolonged usage.

I apply moisturising cream every night before I sleep. It's very important as dry skin would cause the itch and the area might crack and weep too. If I don't scratch it and allow it to heal, it'll fade and leave only a very very faint scar. Unfortunately, I've really itchy hands and I've quite a alot of scars. cry_smile.gif Wonder if anyone knows how to get rid of the scars? sad.gif

Posted by: celestina Mar 1 2008, 01:48 PM

I had ezcema since i was young and it was really bad. I stopped having it when i was in sec school and i thought it was gone for good till it came back when i was in JC. My doctor told me i would most likely have it for life because eczema attacks will stop recurring only if you no longer experience its symptoms during your adolescence. It used to be at the back of my knees, but now it happens at my fingers and wrist area.

One trigger for it, i realised, is stress. When it was extremely bad i'd have to take pills to stop the itching and to apply cream to allow the affected parts to dry up, which will stop the weeping and promote healing. Anyway i totally agree that the cream makes your skin thinner cos my skin gets cut easily by my fingernails sometimes and will start to bleed. However, it may be due to my sharp nails too.

It would also be good to apply moisturizer on areas which are prone to ezcema. I use this cream called Urecare for moisturizing which is quite good, it can be easily found in Guardian and it comes in a grey package. But i find it v troublesome to have to apply cream all the time so occasionally, i have to suffer the itch. If possible, try using shower foam for sensitive skin too, i think other brands of shower foam may be too much for the skin. Currently, i use Seba-med or Eucerin.

Certain types of food also exacerbate my ezcema, like prawns! There was once i broke out in hives immediately after i ate them.

Anyway regarding scars, i think they will fade in future, which will take at most a year (provided that you dont scratch) cos the scars i had when i was young are all gone.

i have eczema too but it's quite mild compared to some of you babes. just last week the skin around my mouth started to peel and it was so dry i couldn't even open my mouth to eat or talk. i had to drink soup and eat through a tea spoon and that was painful too! and i had a major presentation that week!

so i went to my doctor and he jabbed me and i'm almost cured now. he didnt give me and cream or pills. just 2g of steroid jab. he said i had an 'ang moh' skin problem which is extremely rare in asians. if im not wrong, only 20g per year is allowed to be consumed in the body. and the price is quite affordable too. i see him for whitening jabs too. very nice and friendly doctor, explains everything very thoroughly

Posted by: SoAh Mar 2 2008, 02:06 AM

I've got eczema too on my knee, elbows, ear and near my eye area.
Funny thing is, I din have when I was young.. only happened in my 20s.
But my sis started to have it when she was a toddler and it's her whole body...
Yah, stress causes it, as well as seafood and some skin products.
I only use johnsons baby body milk to bathe.. can't use fancy brands cos will cause skin to weep and itch.

I used to have eczema two years ago. I consulted a TCM doctor and he told me that my eczema is partly because of my diet problem. He told me not to touch anything that contain peanuts. Oh my family love peanuts and i eat peanut butter with bread every morning and nuts tidbits while watching TV and rojak almost every weekend! I took his advice, stop eating nuts and my eczema recovered gradually.

I used to have eczema since young and my whole neck, inner elbow, behind kness will all be red and swollen. It continued all the way from kindergarden to JC. I think its the genes as my father, sister and brother all have it cry_smile.gif

I went to poly clinics and the cream that they gave was only good for reducing the itch and it caused my skin to turn dark (think black/purple) so its very ugly even when it wasn't red. And once I stop applying the cream, the itch will come back. My sister went to NSC which was both expensive and not effective bleah.gif

Then she went to another clinic which is VERY VERY expensive and the doctor is VERY proud dry.gif (I guess there is a reason for it) but the cream and soap that he gave are good and effective. I went there too and within a week my decades old eczema was gone. He said that eczema can be triggered by mood (stress), diet (seafood esp those with shell), dirt (dust, mud) and washing pdts (body form, soap, shampoo) etc.

As mentioned by other podders, eczema is not really curable but you can control it. Now my eczema is under control. Everytime I start to itch (once every few months) I will quickly apply the cream and it will be ok after a while.

For those who are willing to spend the money to get the eczema cured, you all can PM me to get the name of the clinic and THAT particular doctor which is at taka (maybe some of you all might know it LOL).

Well, I would say that the consultation plus pills, soap and cream will add up to almost 1k or even more. sweatingbullets.gif

Be mentally prepared.
