Urgent. Can any kind soul help please? ):

I am totally at a loss of what to do! My hamsters, female and male has shared in the same cage since young. Right now after the mummy hamster has given birth, my friend whom worked in pet shop told me to separate the father n let the mother hamster stay tgth with her children. However after the separation, the mother does not seem to been keen in her babies. She neglected them and did not feed them at all. All she does is jump around the cage, trying to escape. So should I put the father hamster back into the cage tgth with all of them?
