My SO and I have been looking to apply HDB flat and we are looking at 5 room flat initially as I do not like to squeeze in small flats like 3 room flats till lately, we chat with one of a couple friend who are getting married shortly. The husband-to-be quit his high paying job just to be eligible to apply for a 3 room flat. I understand their rational of getting a 3 room flat as it is more affordable to maintain and less taxing but with the new HDB rule, my rational is that it is better to get a bigger flat now (although more taxing now but I believe both my SO and my income will increase over the years, making it less painful for us to afford) as I am not sure future upgrading will be difficult.

I know the size of flat is to individual preference but I want to hear all of your views.
